EDOT Animated Maps

Select from the following month-long animations:

USA Map New Mexico Map Florida Map
May (starting 05/16) 199905_us_4.gif 199905_nm_4.gif 199905_fl_4.gif
June 199906_us_4.gif 199906_nm_4.gif 199906_fl_4.gif
July 199907_us_4.gif 199907_nm_4.gif 199907_fl_4.gif

For animation files, the first 6 numbers in the filename indicate the year and month (YYYYMM), the following two letters indicate map coverage (us, nm, or fl), and the final number indicates the minimum number of stations required for plotting.

Each animation frame shows 2 hours of activity.  Successive frames are shifted by 1 hour.

Event locations are represented by pluses.

As indicated by the colorbar below the map, symbol color shows event time of day in Universal Time (UT).

White asterisks (*) show the locations of EDOT sensors.

Lines of events that project radially from either of the array hubs often result from large range uncertainties.

We make no guarantees regarding to the sensitivity of our lightning detections, the accuracy of our lightning locations, or the completeness of our lightning coverage.
