For archive files, the first 8 numbers in the filename indicate the day of the year (YYYYMMDD), and the following two letters (us, nm, fl, or st) reveal what data subset was used to generate the event locations. A 'zoom' in the filename indicates that the map provides a close-up view.
Three symbols may exist on event maps: squares, pluses, and minuses. Squares represent events that we have not attempted to classify. Pluses and minuses represent positive and negative bipolar pulses respectively. These pulses are described in our on-line publications.
As indicated by the colorbar below the map, symbol color shows event time of day in Universal Time (UT).
White asterisks (*) show the locations of EDOT sensors.
Maps show locations of events recorded by at least three EDOT sensors. We archive the waveforms from all such events. Lines of events that project radially from either of the array hubs often result from our ranging uncertainty.
We make no guarantees regarding to the sensitivity of our lightning detections, the accuracy of our lightning locations, or the completeness of our lightning coverage.
